Symptoms of heart attack show up in different ways. It depends on a number of factors, such as the type of heart disease a person suffers from, the age of the person, and also the gender.
A heart attack has some common symptoms, such as extreme shortness of breath, feeling of heartburn or indigestion, and squeezing chest pain. However, many people are unaware that heart attack symptoms can be different for men and women. The following are a few symptoms that are more likely to occur in either gender:
In men:
- Chest pain with a squeezing sensation (intermittent or constant)
- Pain or discomfort in the upper body
- Irregular heartbeat
- Stomach discomfort
- Shortness of breath
- Feeling of faint
- Cold sweat break out
In women:
- Sudden severe fatigue or fatigue lasting for days
- Disturbed sleep
- Anxiety
- Shortness of breath
- Indigestion or gas-like pain
- Jaw pain
- Pain in the centre of the chest spreading to the arm
