Congenital heart surgery fixes or treats a heart defect that a child has from birth. Surgery is needed if the defect affects the child’s health or well-being. They can occur in the heart’s valves, chambers or blood vessels and can be categorised as mild or severe. The mild cases might not need surgery even through adulthood however some severe cases need immediate corrective surgery.
